Poetry Salon for Asian Creatives

Poetry Salon for Creatives of Asian descent

Role: Co-facilitator with Ayesha Raees at Asian American Writers’ Workshop

THE CHALLENGE

There is a lack of space and community for Asian/Asian American poets and hybrid writers who are experimenting with more than one genre including poetry.

THE SOLUTION

Poetry Salon for Asian/Asian American creatives is a monthly convening and dedicated space for writers/poets of Asian descent to connect, practice, and build community. The monthly salons are organized at Asian American Writers’ Workshop in NYC.

Using the methodology of a community of practice, the Salon is structured as below:

  • stretching/breathing exercise + intention building

  • community building activities (games or collective poetry constructions)

  • skillshare conversation (each participant share their origin story, skills they can contribute to the community and skills they need help with)
